Margaret A Windsor has, as far as I know, written just the one horse book. The heroine has a hearing problem, but life is transformed once she has a hearing test. The title, Pretty Saro, is taken from a folk song collected in North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in 1930 by Dorothy Scarborough.
Finding the book: easy to find in the USA, and not at all expensive. It wasn’t published in the UK.
